Juliana Pena's career is in danger after losing her
" completely
dominant" title fight to Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 277. When
you fight a hungry lioness, then you will have to pay a heavy price.
Showing no fear, in front of a crowd of 19,442 at
the American Airlines Center in Rose Dallas on Saturday, Pena (11-5) stepped
into the Octagon to attack the "lioness." But Pena had forgotten that
luck does not cooperate again and again. The "lioness" retaliated
against Pena and stabbed Pena several times with her claws
Pena was dropped three times in the second round -
twice with her right hand and once with her left - as her opponent struggled to
find her range. Pena didn't fare much better on Earth. Pena, who was born in
Washington, suffered several gruesome blows to the head and looked like
something out of a horror movie with blood pouring down her face. Over the
course of five rounds, "The Lioness" was slashed badly on the
forehead, leaving Pena with a 'large chunk' of the forehead.
UFC president Dana White confirmed that he was
immediately taken to see specialists as soon as the judges confirmed her defeat
after going the distance.
White said: 'Juliana has a large chunk missing from
her forehead.
'She's going to see a plastic surgeon now.'
White also acknowledged that this could be the end
of Pena's incredible career, despite defeating Nunes in a major upset in
December to be crowned UFC bantamweight world champion.
While Pena's resilience and determination in the
fight was admirable, White said there was nothing else about him, and that it
was Nunes' night.
The
question is, do you think Pena will return?
Please let me know what you think, thanks.
