ONE 159 was held on Friday (July 22)
at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kaling, Singapore. In which the one world
champion of two divisions, Reinier de Ridder, once again proved himself
unbeaten by watching a great performance against the former champion Vitaly
Bigdash.
On Friday, De Ridder defended his
light heavyweight title with a first-round submission of Vitaly Bigdash at ONE
Championship 159 in Singapore. "The Dutch Knight" survived an early
guillotine scare and then took control of the fight on the floor, latching onto
an inverted triangle choke during a position change that put Bigdash to sleep
at the 3:29 mark of Round 1. Put in. The victory also marked D'Ridder's seventh
ONE mixed martial arts victory and second defense of the ONE Middleweight World
Championship. It was also his fourth submission victory at the Home of Martial
Arts. Additionally, the victory earned him a US$50,000 performance bonus.
After the win, DeRidder said he now
wants to set his sights on a third unification title as he moves up to
heavyweight. And instead of wanting to fight the eventual winner between
champion Arjan Bhullar and interim champion Anatoly Malykhin, DeRidder said he
would rather fight them both on the same night.
In the co-main event, Janet Todd
became an interim atom-weight Muay Thai world champion after a unanimous
decision victory over WBC Muay Thai world champion Lara Fernandez. The victory
makes Todd a two-sport world champion as she already holds the one-atom -weight
kickboxing world title. The American striker also extended her winning streak
to seven.
Also in the opening round, Sinsamut
Klinmee produced one of the best highlights of the night when he brutally
knocked Liam Nolan out of the air with a left hook, dropping the Muay Thai
fighter in a heap on the mat.
