UFC on ESPN: Vera vs. Cruz – Main Card UFC Predictions
Bantamweight: Marlon Vera vs. Dominick Cruz
Marlon Vera is 19-7 in his professional career and
is currently ranked fifth in the UFC bantamweight rankings. He is 3-0 in his
previous three fights, with one of those bringing the Performance of the Night
Bonus his way (vs. Frankie Edgar). The other two bouts were crowned the ‘Fight
of the Night‘ (vs. Davey Grant and
Rob Font).
The fight with Rob Font is particularly interesting
as it saw Font land almost 100 total strikes more than Vera (223-134).
Nevertheless, that wasn’t enough to stop relentless Vera, who eventually got
himself a win by unanimous decision.
Vera is coming to San Diego as a strong favorite to
triumph against the former divisional champ Dominick Cruz. Cruz is 24-3 and is
sitting in the #8 position in the bantamweight rankings. What’s interesting
about his style of fighting is that he’s great at striking defense – only one
fighter managed to land more than 100 strikes on him (T.J. Dillashaw landed 130
total strikes in 2020).
Knowing all this, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise
if the underdog ends up winning on Saturday. Cruz has the experience, as well
as the skillset necessary to beat favored Vera.
Vera vs Cruz Vegas Odds
Marlon Vera -196
Dominick Cruz +152
