Bellator 276 went live tonight from Family Arena in
St. Louis, Missouri. In the main event of Bellator 276, Adam Borics (17-1) and
Mads Burnell (16-3) were seen breaking the tie for the # 2 ranked featherweight
in the promotion. The winner of this fight is definitely the next to face the
winner of the next McKee / Pitbull rematch on April 15.
Borics, who had been looking very angry and excited
from the first round, started throwing more active strikes from the beginning
of the fight, which landed with crisp and varied strikes. Burnell, on the other
hand, showed patience and restraint, and sometimes responded with crunching
upper cut combos and body shots. The most impressive strikes of Round 1 came
from Borics. He jerked Burnell in one step with his elbow and follow-up knee.
Burnell demonstrated the toughness of the elite, staying close and forcing Borics
to stay away from him. Borics had strengthened his grip on the match from the
first round. And it seemed he wasn't going to back down.
But suddenly Burnell turned the tide in Round 2,
landing repeatedly with left hooks, upper kits, digging body shots and leg
kicks. Borics had many offenses of his own, including a hard knee to the chest
and a fist twisting around his back. Burnell is seen coming out of the round
before Borics drops him close to the frame with his right hand leaving 10
seconds.
In Round 3, Burnell began to try to strengthen his
grip on the match again. As a result of which Burnell played a very good
stutter, it seemed that maybe Burnell will win the match again. But Borics won
in the final minutes of the round, but that was probably not enough to save him
a third consecutive round.
Borics resurrected in Round 4. He significantly
increased the volume, repeatedly lowered his knees in the middle, and lowered
Burnell's eye. Burnell kept up his forward pressure, but Borics regularly found
a place to take straight shots. A dance party began at the end of the round,
with Bernell and Borics showing off their charisma and showmanship.
Borics landed voluntarily in the last five minutes
of the fight. Burnell fought primarily with a working eye, but that didn't stop
him from moving forward and arguing. Burnell seemed to give up most body shots,
which served him well in combat. Borics was awarded a unanimous decision in
which the judges' scorecards were read: 49-46, 50-45 and 49-46.
Top 5 Light Heavyweight Phil Davis (# 2) and Julius
Anglicas (# 4) competed in the co-main event. Davis is a former champion. And
they've had great success in four of their last five. In his most recent
outing, Davis defeated Yoel Romero by a split decision on Bellator 266. As far
as Julius Anglikas is concerned, he recently clinched the title of Bellator 268
against champion Vadim Nemkov, who won the fourth round submission.
Davis used a heavy boat attack, the Brad and Butter
weapon that made him famous. Anglikas tried their best to keep the fight going,
but failed again and again. This may have been a threat to Davis' heavy fall,
but each time before the fight came on the canvas, Anglickas largely failed to
find its rhythm.
In Round 3, Davis tried to submit through the right
arm, but Anglickas defended. He ended the round with a massive takedown.
Moments later, he was declared the winner based on the scorecards.
