The biggest fight in UFC history is about to happen.
Now it is to be seen whether The Lioness proves people wrong by taking back her
throne or will lose her throne forever. This weekend the UFC heads to Dallas,
Texas for its latest major pay-per-view event, featuring a huge rematch in the
headliner.
UFC 277: Julianna Pena vs Amanda Nunes 2 airs live
on pay-per-view on Saturday, July 30th from the American Airlines Center in
Dallas, TX. In the main event, reigning women's bantamweight champion Julianna
Pena (11-4) will make the first defense of her belt against former 135-pound
titleholder and reigning featherweight queen Amanda Nunes (21-5) in a
championship rematch.
Neither woman has fought since the first meeting
last December. Nunes entered her fight with Pena at December's UFC 269 as a
heavy favorite, but after dominating the first round she became a bit
overconfident. Pena fought back and dethroned "The Lioness" to the
shock of the world, picking up the win with a naked choke submission from
behind. But literally, everyone was favoring for Nunes to go in, as Pena really showed no
evidence that she was capable of finishing 'The Lioness'.
UFC 277 turns
out to be very interesting as the American will try to prove that her win over
Nunes was not a fluke, while "The Lioness" will look to reclaim her "throne" status
as the dual weight champion.
What do you think is going to happen? Please let me
know your opinion in the comments box.
This will be Pena's first title defense and all eyes
will be on whether her win over Nunes was a fluke, or if she is the real deal.
I don't think it was a fluke, but I think Nunes will
win the fight. She will be angry that she took her foot off the gas after the
first round.
Nunes has won 13 of his 21 victories by knockout,
and I'm backing her to knock out Pena in the second round and get his belt
back.
While the
co-main event features former flyweight champion Brandon Moreno (19-6-2) and
No. 2-ranked contender Kai Cara-France (24-9, 1 NC) battling for the interim
125-pound belt. This pair is meeting for the second time. "The Assassin Baby"
came out on top in December 2019, winning by unanimous decision.
