Update
for UFC Paris: Manon Fiorot vs. Katlyn Chookagian fight out from UFC Paris
A key flyweight matchup between Katlyn Chookagian
and Manon Fiorot that everyone has been waiting for will probably have to wait
a little longer. Because Katlyn Chookagian's fight against Manon Fiorot has
been canceled from UFC Paris in September.
But there is also good news that this match has now
been decided in UFC 280. RMC Sport first reported the new date. Our sources
have confirmed that the reason for the cancellation is Fiorot's knee injury,
which will prevent Fiorot from taking on Katlyn Chookagian as originally
scheduled, so their 125-pound clash at UFC 280 has been transferred to
Fiorot, the former UAE Warriors titleholder (9-1,
4-0 UFC), is currently in the running for Valentina Shevchenko's flyweight
crown. In her most recent Octagon appearances, she picked up back-to-back
decisions after defeating Mayra Bueno Silva and Jennifer Maia at UFC Fight
Night 195 and UFC on ESPN 33, respectively.
One-time UFC flyweight title contender Chookagian
(18-4, 11-4 UFC) is also eyeing a second crack at the champion. The former Cage
Fury Fighting Championship two-division titleholder has won four in a row. Most
recently, she showed some great wrestling en route to a unanimous decision win
over Maia at UFC on ESPN 32.
UFC 280 is headlined by a lightweight championship
affair between former divisional kingpin Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev.
In the co-main event, Aljamain Sterling putts his 135-pound title on the line
against T.J. Dalasha.
