DWCS Season 6, Week 2 returns to action as usual on
Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, with 10 fighters from
5 divisions taking part. Fighters seem to have taken notice of UFC President
Dana White's angry announcement. Because in DWCS Season 6, Week 2, 5 fighters
won the UFC contract.
Last week, middleweight standout Joe Pyfer became
the first (and only) fighter to earn a DWCS contract so far in 2022, when he
defeated Ozzy Diaz with a second-round TKO, leaving the UFC president a bit
disappointed, and giving a strong message to all Week 2 fighters to be like Joe
Pyfer and perform well if you want to get a UFC contract. Such a message was
given for the first time by Witt.
The result was that every fight seemed to receive a
message from Dana White. In the main event, Chris Duncan knocked White out of
his chair again for a crazy knockout. For the first 90 or so seconds of the
bout, it looked like Charlie Campbell was going to knock out the two-time DWCS
heavyweight as he dropped bomb after bomb in a fierce exchange. As Duncan
backed away, desperately trying to shoot for a takedown and regain his
bearings, he landed a series of uppercuts and hit the fence. But in the split
second, before Campbell could get to him with another shot, he snapped a
straight right that tied Campbell. With the other two rights, Campbell was
cold, and Duncan was one of five headed to the UFC.
While heavyweights Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Danilo
Suzart didn't have a great fight, it certainly wasn't a technical fight, but
they put on a stand-up push. Cortes-Acosta, with a boxing background, got
better at things on the feet, and he didn't go to the ground until Suzart was
knocked down. Cortes-Acosta landed some follow-up punches and sealed the deal.
