Invicta FC will start the year 2022 with a rematch of the Atom Weight title.
The event is significant as champion Alesha Zappitella will defend her ballot with Jessica Delboni for the second time on January 12 at Invicta FC 45 from Memorial Hall in Cannes, Kansas City.
Zappitella (8-2) won the empty Atomweight title in September 2020 by defeating Ashley Cummins with Van Flu Square. Zappitella then defended his first and only title by winning the split against Delboni at Invicta FC 44 last May.
Delboni (11-3), on the other hand, won the Atomweight Tournament in Invicta FC: Phoenix Series 4 in June to avenge the title loss to Zappitella and reclaim his belt, winning three fights in one night. He re-established himself as the No. 1 contender at 105 pounds, defeating Lindsey VanZandt by a unanimous decision in the three-round final.
The second time the tension is high, Delboni has openly stated that he believes he is already a deserving champion, and Zapatela is an exception.
Delboni said, "I need to prove that I was better than Zappitella and I am a champion, I am a real champion. I think I won that fight, but now I need to prove it. And I want my belt back. "
